Banks likely to increase fees.

New government rules that attempt to protect consumers are having a negative backlash. As these regulations are imposed, banks are likely to find creative ways to impose more fees on consumers. Some likely repercussions imposed by banks to offset expected financial losts are:

  • Eliminating features of free checking or all together.
  • Bigger minimum balances needed to qualify for free checking.
  • Shorter grace periods for credit card payments.
  • Higher fees on everything from certified checks to ATMs.
  • Less interest given on interest earning accounts.

Criminal or Self Defense?

What is and is not self defense is a common topic among Michiganders considering the amount of weapons owned in our state. On June 30 2010, a 70 year old Green Oak Township man was convicted for shooting a teenager that was fleeing his prosperity after pulling a prank. The man claims he intended to fire a warning shot (at the ground), but the warning shot ricocheted off the ground and hit the teenage vandal in the back.

A good rule of thumb is, do not use force with a deadly weapon unless you have reason to believe you are in imminent danger of death or injury. Self defense cases have a lot of grey areas and can easily be turned into a criminal defense case or a personal injury case by your allege attacker. In an article published the other day, experts go over some of the essentials of what constitutes self defense in Michigan.

Given the grey area of the subject matter, if you find yourself in a situation where you thought you were using self defense but ended up being charged with a crime, you’ll definitely need a criminal defense lawyer.

Feel free to consult with one of our criminal defense lawyers. Remember, it’s absolutely free.

Do you know what this symbol means?

Having tires that are not improperly inflated poses many risks and is frequently a contributing factor in automobile accidents. Denying citizenship of immigrant children

A number of Republican congressman and others are talking about amending the Constitution so that children of illegal immigrants who are born in this country would no longer automatically be granted citizenship. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution states that "all persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" are automatically U.S. citizens. However some political figures such as Senator Lindsey Graham has called this a “mistake” and have suggested a possible amendment.

Personal Injury in auto cases easier to prove.

The Michigan Supreme Court is likely to replace the Kreiner v. Fischer law with the McCormick v. Carrier law. This means that getting compensation for auto accident related injuries in Michigan will be much easier. The old law required you to objectively prove bodily injuries through means such as a test. The problem is that many injuries are not precisely measureable yet still have an effect on a person’s ability to perform essential tasks. Under the new auto accident law, you must now only prove that your injuries have prevented you from performing an essential task such as your ability to work. Getting a personal injury attorney will help you prove this.

The personal injury lawyers at 248 Lawyers P.C. will always make sure you get the right amount for your injuries. If you have recently been in accident involving an automobile, contact 248 Lawyers P.C. now as the more time you wait, the more difficult it is to prove your case.

Michigan’s candidates for governor, learn more.

As you may or may not know, today the polls for Michigan’s primary election for governor opens. Experts expect a low turn-out with only around 17% of Michigan citizens to actually vote. One of the reasons for the low turnout is the simple fact that many Michiganders do not know much about the candidates. If you want the vote but do not know much about our candidates, please check out MiVote.org for easy videos with various candidates explaining their positions, experience, and background.
